5 ways to spring clean your life
The weather is getting warmer, the trees are starting to bloom and your social calendar is filling up quickly. All signs point to one thing — spring is on its way! There are so many things to love about the new season. Not only does it motivate us to get out of our ‘track pants and pizza’ rut, it’s the perfect time to hit ‘refresh’ on your life. After all, there’s a reason they call it ‘spring’ cleaning! However, when you don’t know where to start, it can be a stressful and overwhelming process. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be! Here’s how to detox and declutter your entire life in 5 simple steps.
1. Cull your wardrobe
There’s no better time to downsize your closet than at the start of the new season. First, take a look at your autumn and winter clothes. Rather than just shoving them straight into storage, think about what you actually wore this season. If there’s anything that remained on the hanger, it’s safe to say you can sell it or give it away to charity. Then, do the same with your other clothes. Anything you don’t love, that doesn’t fit or you have duplicates of (nobody needs 10 plain black t-shirts!) has got to go. Not only will your closet look much neater, you’ll be amazed how much easier getting ready in the morning is when you’re not overwhelmed by choices.
2. Give your home a deep clean
Decluttering your home and rearranging your furniture is a great way to make you humble abode feel all shiny and new. But there’s a difference between ‘tidy’ and ‘clean.’ There’s no point making your living spaces look like something out of an interior design magazine if you’ve got disorganised cupboards or mould-covered showers. Spend a day or two giving your home a ‘deep clean’ from top to bottom. That means all those forgotten things like dusting those high shelves, cleaning out the pantry and reorganising your medicine cabinet. Tip: Having some nice-smelling cleaning products like the Organic Choice range will make this step approximately 10 times more enjoyable!
3. Do a digital detox
In today’s modern world, our phones are basically an extension of our lives. So, it’s important to do regularly do a declutter of our digital devices. Start by looking at any unnecessary apps or programs you’ve got installed on your phone or computer (especially the ones you’re paying for!) If you haven’t used it in the last 6 months, hit ‘delete’. Then, go through your Facebook and Instagram friends list. If there’s anyone who you no longer speak to or who makes you roll your eyes each time they post, you may want to unfriend, unfollow or simply hide their posts. Then, it’s time to go through your email inbox. To get to the glorious state of ‘inbox zero,’ spend some time deleting and archiving old messages and unsubscribing to newsletters you never read (unroll.me is a great program that allows you to do this within minutes.)
4. Clear out your bags
If your handbag or briefcase is weighing you down (literally), now is the perfect opportunity to give it a good clean-out. Dump its contents on the floor and get rid of any receipts (you can take photos if you think you need them for your tax records), broken pens, loyalty cards you’ll never use and old chapsticks. While you’re at it, do the same with your gym duffle and any other bags you have lying around. Who knows, you may even be pleasantly surprised and find some money in there!
5. Revaluate your goals
Spring cleaning your life isn’t just about decluttering the physical things. It’s a great time to look at those goals you set back in January and see how you’re tracking. Are there any you can tick off? Do you need to set new goals? Are there any you need to get back on track with and if so, how will you do it? Asking yourself these questions will help you reignite your focus and motivation for the rest of the year.
